B4BC Yoga Heals is a community-based program that seeks to promote health and wellness through yoga, while fundraising for our B4BC Chasing Sunshine program and other prevention, education, and awareness initiatives. B4BC Yoga Heals program makes you feel great about your health while paying it forward for those in need of support. Yoga does, in fact, heal!
Hosting a B4BC Yoga Heals session at your event is one of the best ways to kick-off a program, festival, event, or gathering by setting the stage with an inspiring and positive vibe and fundraising for a cause.
We re-launched our Yoga Heals programs, with our Health and Wellness Manager Megan Pischke, at the 20th Annual B4BC Snowboard and Music Festival at Sierra-at-Tahoe April 4, 2016. The local Tahoe yoga community embraced the idea and more than 50 participants, including Olympic gold medalist Jamie Anderson, Sierra-at-Tahoe General Manager, John Rice, and scores of other yoga fans and professional snowboarders and skiers gathered on the rooftop deck of the resort to complete 108 Sun Salutations—all while fundraising through individual sponsorship by friends and family of each salutation a participant completed.
“For me, yoga has cultivated a place in my body, heart, and mind, that I like to refer as “my best me,” explains Megan. “I started doing yoga to help me with my sports, and was finding it was not only increasing my flexibility, and muscle/joint/spinal strength, I was finding peace in sitting still, and creating a powerful personal space of balance and self-realization on my mat each day. I will go as far to say that yoga has helped me find my place in the world. By creating these events and retreats, and inspiring others to feel good about themselves on all levels, at the same time raising funds and awareness for a cause that is a piece of my heart, is truly a dream come true.”
PAST B4BC YOGA HEALS PROGRAMS INCLUDE:
B4BC Sea to Sky Mala, Whistler, B.C., August 28, 2016: This event was created by Megan as a pay-it-forward to her communities that came together to support her and her family during her cancer treatments in 2013. It is also to inspire all modalities of yoga in the Sea to Sky corridor in British Columbia, to come together and support their neighbors. It’s a way to contribute to The Sarah Burke Foundation, that supports young people in their sports, and to send two local women affected by breast cancer to an all expense paid weekend in California at a Chasing Sunshine Ocean retreat. There will be 4 different teachers, each teaching a set of 27 sun salutations, complimented by DJ Praiz and his rhythmic music, and the beautiful outdoor setting atop the local Squamish Gondola. 108 Minutes of Yoga, Supergirl Pro, Oceanside, CA, July 22, 2016: B4BC will host two sessions of 54 minutes of yoga during sunrise and sunset to kick-off the Supergirl Pro festival weekend in style. This is an opportunity to encourage local yoga studios to gather together, and for the surfers and fans of the festival participate in a unique session, including a DJ to keep the flow going.
108 Sun Salutations: Annual B4BC Snowboard and Music Festival, April, 2017
B4BC Chasing Sunshine Ocean and Mountain Retreats: Our bi-annual retreats for young survivors always include a daily dose of Yoga Heals flow sessions, led by local yogini’s to help stretch, strengthen, and encourage those who participate in B4BC’s survivorship program.
