So many great things and relationships always come out of these weekends, our young women’s retreats, and it’s truly an honor for me to be hosting, and having an opportunity to be so inspired. At our 12th B4BC Chasing Sunshine retreat, September 30-October 1, 2016, we had more than double the amount of applicants than ever before for the 10 Survivorship positions we had available. This shows the need for doing more!
We are proud to announce that our Chasing Sunshine documentary, directed by Paul Watt and Megan Pischke, and produced by Erika Seward, has been nominated for the 2016 Rockie Awards at the Banff World Media Festival taking place in Banff Alberta, June 13, 2016. What is uniquely special about this nomination is that our B4BC documentary was nominated in the category of “Science and Technology” and selected by an industry jury of professionals working in entertainment and media from around the world.
ATTENTION BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS + LOVED ONES: Boarding For Breast Cancer is pleased to host our 6th holistic outdoor retreat with our wellness ambassador, and former pro-snowboarder, Megan Pischke. We are SO excited to debut our brand new & extremely beautiful Chasing Sunshine Project logo!! This amazing new piece was designed by our friends at Perspektiiv in South Lake Tahoe and perfectly captures the essence of Chasing Sunshine. Alison, the founder of Perspektiiv shares some words below about why she was inspired to help us with the redesign. Thank you so much Alison, we are in love with our new logo!
With over 2.9 million breast cancer survivors in the US alone, B4BC recognizes the importance of supporting our growing survivor community. In 2009, the B4BC Survivorship Fund was established to connect breast cancer survivors with nature-based wellness experiences that enhance their path of healing and long-term survivorship. This past fall we granted (10) breast cancer survivors the opportunity to attend our Chasing Sunshine Project: Ocean Retreat hosted by B4BC wellness ambassador, pro-snowboarder, survivor–Megan Pischke. The weekend focused on reconnecting with the natural world and ourselves through meditation, surfing, yoga, clean organic eating, and inclusive health discussions devoted to removing obstacles so that we may move forward, continue to heal, and achieve balance in our lives.
It’s personal for B4BC friend and supporter Samantha Kuhr. Unfortunately, Sam was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, but we were so happy to have her join us for our Chasing Sunshine Project Ocean Retreat in Encinitas, California this past Fall. After her experience with B4BC, Sam connected us with her friend and employer Erin Condren (you may recognize that name). Erin Condren is not only an amazing woman herself, but runs an awesome company of the same name that produces the cutest planners, stationary, notecards, etc. We were so stoked to hear that Erin Condren wanted to create a product benefitting B4BC.
We just wrapped our 9th annual winter Chasing Sunshine retreat for breast cancer survivors in Aspen, Colorado—a weekend full of positivity, wellness and healing. We are honored to have be able to fund scholarships for eight breast cancer survivors to attend this retreat, hosted by pro snowboarder and breast cancer survivor Megan Pischke, to connect these women with a nature-based wellness and sustainability experience that enhance their path of healing and long-term survivorship. Megan was diagnosed with breast cancer in the Fall of 2012, ironically after hosting a B4BC surf and wellness retreat for breast cancer survivors.
We were honored to be part of an inspiring night at The Women’s Image Networks (WIN) Awards, Wednesday evening, February 10, 2016 in Los Angeles, for B4BC’s nominated documentary Chasing Sunshine, co-directed and featuring our Wellness Ambassador, Megan Pischke. The documentary follows, Megan, who is a former pro snowboarder, through her breast cancer diagnosis, the rigors of treatment, and a very raw account that hasn’t been seen before.
