What an amazing weekend it was at B4BC’s 14th Annual Skate the Lake presented by Suja! Nearly 100 people broke out their rolling vehicle of choice, ranging from skateboards, longboards, roller skates, bicycles, and even a scooter, to cruise 28 miles along beautiful Lake Tahoe and the majestic Truckee River for breast cancer prevention.
A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored, rolled and donated – together we were able to raise $30,033 towards B4BC’s outreach, education and survivorship programs!
The weekend kicked off with B4BC friends joining us for a registration party at Commons Beach in Tahoe City. Live music from Truckee Tribe, DJ Paul and DJ IJ kept vibes up and strong, while a Yoga Heals Session by Yoga Studio Tahoe brought everyone to their Zen. Thanks to Soundboks for providing the tunes all weekend long.
Suja provided organic fresh pressed juices and kombuchas to everyone on the beach. Those joining us were able to check out one of our biggest silent auctions yet – huge prize packs from YETI, Traeger Grills, The North Face, and loads of hand painted Arbor skateboards. We also had hand pressed hats from Arbor Board House as well as Arbor skate displays – a preview of demos for the next day! A huge thank you to 10 Barrel Brewing Co for supplying brews in the beer garden and The Buck Stops Here for serving tasty BBQ all night!
Saturday morning a record breaking 94 participants hopped on their wheels to join us for 28 miles of pushing along the Lake. We started at Sugar Pine State Park and rolled 7 miles to our first hydration stop at West Shore Market and from there it was the big 10 mile push up to The Village at Squaw Valley and back, ending (28 miles and roughly ~5 hours later) back at Commons Beach.
The energy stayed strong throughout the day with the help of Soundboks portable speakers that kept the tunes flowing. Participants refueled with Suja juices, kombucha, and probiotic water, as well as electrolytes and Clif Bars, and snacks at each of our 3 hydration stops.
28 miles later participants crossed the finish line at Commons Beach and were welcomed with a huge raffle and award ceremony with prizes and prize packs from sponsors including Yeti, Suja, The North Face, Zumiez, Skullcandy, Vans, Tahoe Longboards, Arbor, Nikita, Dakine, Sector 9, VonZipper, Nixon and more.
A huge thank you and congratulations to our top fundraisers Jason Knight, Katie Lyssand and Steve Gatlin! Jason was awarded with a Yeti cooler and a Suja cleanse! Katie received a $500 Zumiez gift card and Steve was given a Yeti Cooler as well as prize packs to all skaters! All participants and fundraisers made this event happen and we are so thankful for the overwhelming support and love from the Tahoe community. Fundraising is still open through August 31,2018 – please help support our education, prevention and survivorship programs!
Thank you so much to everyone who came out and supported, skated, and fundraised as well as to our sponsors Suja, Soundboks, Arbor Collective, Yeti, The North Face, Hartline Construction, Mountain Forge Iron Works, Tahoe Longboards, Traeger Grills, Yoga Studio Tahoe, GoPro, Sector 9, West Shore Market, TCPUD, 10 Barrel Brewing Co, Tahoe Dave’s, Willard’s Sport Shop, Moe’s Original Barbeque, The Village at Squaw Valley and Further/More Design.
