B4BC had an exceptionally busy winter season this year having presence at over 12 mountains nationwide including ESPN’s Winter X games, the US Open of Snowboarding and USASA Nationals.
The season kicked off by educating thousands of fans in attendance at ESPN’s Winter X Games 10 at Aspen/ Snowmass. B4BC was onsite as part of theTeam ESPN tent and once again Winter X provided us with an outstanding platform for educational outreach as we spoke with old and new friends from around the world!
After X we headed into our annual Board-a-thon series, which were held at three resorts across the U.S. this season, including Hunt Hollow, NY, Killington Resort, VT, and Crystal Mountain, MI. Through contests, auctions, raffles, and concerts, each resort found creative ways to raise funds and increase breast cancer awareness in their community. The largest board-a-thon in the series, presented by The Lounge snowboard shop, was held at Hunt Hollow, NY and raised over $16,000 for our cause. As with all Board-a-thons, in exchange for the community support B4BC donated back a percentage of the proceeds to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.
This year we created the B4BC Pink Mountain program as a way for mountains and organizations that share B4BC’s mission to support the cause. In addition to selling our pink wristbands, t-shirts, and distributing educational shower cards and health literature Waterville Valley, NH, Stowe Mt, VT, Big Bear Mountain, CA, Cranmore Mt., NH and Whistler Blackcomb all produced awesome days on our behalf.
As usual the US Open was a great time for B4BC with Burton Snowboards continuing to support our efforts by creating the Burton/ B4BC Tied to the Cause product line of beanies, mittens, scarves and tote bags. The response was so overwhelming that we sold out of every item half way through the second day! The final stop for the B4BC booth was the USASA National Championships at Northstar @ Tahoe. We loved being at that event and plan on hitting more qualifiers in 2007. You can read more about each event in our archives.
Last but not least we’d like to thanks UCLA’s and UCSD’s, ski/snowboard teams, as well as the SCCSC league, for hosting B4BC fundraising nights where B4BC was onsite for outreach. A very special shout out to two exceptional senior high school students, Shelley Bowen and Kimberly Stevens who for school credit hosted their own board-a-thons on behalf of B4BC.
B4BC would like to thank Laurie B, Map Cargo and all the mountains, companies, organizations, and individuals who helped make this an exceptional year for educational outreach and fundraising. We so greatly appreciate all of your efforts to help us spread the message of Early detection + Active lifestyle = Best Prevention. Thank you for helping us make a difference!
