September 1, 2016—Los Angeles, CA— Boarding for Breast Cancer, the original youth-focused breast cancer education foundation, will celebrate two decades of prevention and support programs for young people, Thursday evening October 6 at the BeCore headquarters in downtown Los Angeles Arts District with a photo and art show called “Amplify” curated by NEMO Design.
Amplify is a celebration fundraising event for the gathering of the tribes of surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, artists, and musicians for an evening of fun, music, art, inspiring images, raffles prizes, skate expression session, foodie trucks, beverages, and more! B4BC will showcase the most iconic image in surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding, curated by the kingpins of each genre, Trevor Graves and Bryce Kanights, plus some of the most influential artwork currently on the scene from RISK, ManOne, Ernesto Yerena, Marcel “Sel” Blanco, Cai Koopman, Jamie Lynn, to amplify the need for breast cancer education, awareness, and prevention. All pieces are for auction to benefit B4BC.
A $10-dollar donation is asked at the door for the 501(c)3 non-profit, with the opportunity to become an official member by joining the B4BC Brigade for $20 and taking home a unique gift bag of thoughtful keepsakes and useful prizes.
“20 years of B4BC reaching so many young people is worth celebrating,” says B4BC Co-Founder and Executive Director, Kathleen Gasperini. ”We’ve always sought out interactive and creative ways to spread the message, from our original Snowboard + Music Festival 20 years ago, to now, Amplify, our Photo and Art Show in Los Angeles with BeCore and NEMO. This celebration of amazing photography and art will kick-off our B4BC Brigade membership drive in B4BC style, opening new doors and sparking passion with fun ways to fundraise, educate, and celebrate with our supporters, athletes, musicians, and artists!”
“Monica was my friend,” explains Trevor Graves, Principal at Nemo Design. “As recently as 20 years ago, it wasn’t even a consideration that a young woman might need to be monitored for breast cancer. Monica might still be with us today if we just had more information at the time. Curating the art work for the B4BC AMPLIFY show is my small, simple way of creating awareness and helping that next young person learn about prevention and early detection—so she can continue to live the active lifestyle we all value so much.”
My cousin Leigh Ann is a breast cancer survivor,” explains Kelly Vaught, CMO of BeCore, about his interest in the cause. Her journey really affected our family and reminded us of the fragility of life and the importance of early detection. Therefore, I’m stoked to support Kathleen and the team at B4BC. Not only do they share office space with us at BeCore, we are honored to host their 20th Anniversary Art show and fundraiser “Amplify.” I’m asking my friends to come out and support this endeavor and see some amazing art and hope others will as well.”
Every year, B4BC provides over 100,000 individuals with peer-to-peer education on how to reduce breast cancer risk, how to perform a breast self-exam and provides an opportunity to experience what a cancerous lump feels like through the use of life-like jelly breast molds. Outreach impressions reach 1,320,000 young people around the world annually.
October is breast cancer awareness—what better way to spend an evening than to spend it with creatives, athletes, and musicians—all for a good cause to celebrate B4BC’s 20th Anniversary and Amplifying the foundation to the next level!
