The B4BC traveling education booth is on the road year-round, and the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, CA is one of our favorite stops! We had an amazing five days of outreach at our 15th consecutive year on-site, teaching thousands about the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle. We taught people of all ages how to perform a breast self-exam and showed them what a potentially cancerous lump might feel like. Hundreds of booth visitors decided to take our prevention pledge, choosing one of our 8 Tips to Stomp Out Breast Cancer and making a promise to themselves to make more positive lifestyle choices.

Our Team B4BC riders were living that #behealthygetactive lifestyle both in the water and on land. Team B4BC surfers Courtney Conlogue, Malia Manuel and Sage Erickson rocked their heats, with Malia advancing to the quarterfinals and Courtney, currently ranked #1 on the Women’s Championship Tour, ripping all the way into the semifinals. Congrats to Team B4BC skater Allysha Bergado who took first place in the Women’s Van Doren Invitational, fresh off her win last weekend in Oceanside at the Supergirl Pro!

Thank you so much to all our amazing volunteers: our intern Maggie Gonzalez, Nicole Bird, Nicki Netherow, Allie Hadley, Kassidy Hansen, Kelsey Woodhouse, Michelle Rivera, Alicia De La Rosa, and Ligia. A special thanks to breast cancer survivor and B4BC volunteer Denise Cross, who first learned how to check herself at our booth years ago and found her own cancerous lump. Also, as always we would like to extend a huge thank you to IMG and WSL for having us on-site, allowing us to reach thousands of individuals to share our message of healthy, active living and early detection as the best means of breast cancer prevention!
