Happy Valentine’s Day! Tonight, we have hot V Day dates planned with a couple that never lets us down—red wine and dark chocolate. Red wines and chocolate are rich in flavonoids. Flavonoids possess potent anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, and can help reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease and age-related degenerative diseases. When you are picking out your bottle, go for Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Syrah, or Pinot Noir as they contain the highest levels of flavanoids. As for the chocolate, the darker the better. Chocolate with a higher cocoa percentage contains more nutrients and less additives like sugar and milk which translate to calories and fat. Whether you’re spending your evening solo or with a special someone, don’t forget to enjoy that wine and chocolate in moderation. If you go overboard, you’ll ruin the mood before you get to your BSE ; )
