Breast cancer survivor and Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) Board Member Una Baker and the Western Surfing Association (WSA) partnered to organize the First Annual Surf For Awareness contest this past weekend at Trail 6, San Onofre; where nearly 100 competitors, ranging from elementary to adult, showed up to surf and support!
The event was a great success fundraising nearly $15,000 for B4BC’s educational outreach efforts. Funds were raised through contest fees, an insane product raffle, and personal fundraising efforts from the competitors, with the top three fundraisers being Ryan Baker ($1,800), Vania Carrette ($1,440), and Austin Toohey ($850).
B4BC would like to send out a special thanks to Una Baker, WSA, the wonderful volunteers, and all the fundraisers for their amazing support! Also many thanks go out to the following companies for their sponsorship and product donations: Surfer Magazine, Surfing Magazine, WaveWatch, Arrowhead Water, IZZE Beverage Company, Luna Bars, Betty Belts, Dewey Weber Surfboards, Pipes Cafe, Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, Paul Frank, Nixon, Von Zipper, Matix, and DVS Shoe Co.!
