What do you get when you blend the Southern California coastline, stoked longboarders and bike riders, a bright red double-decker bus and an infinite amount of energy? That would be none other than the 2nd Annual Skate The Coast!
The Santa Monica Pier welcomed 75 participants bright and early on Saturday, August 30th. Every skater and biker had Clif bars and bottles of Liquid Salvation in hand, pumped to skate the 18 miles from Santa Monica to Redondo Beach all in support for B4BC and breast cancer education and awareness.
The hydration stations along the route rejuvenated everyone with water, Red Bull, Zola, Clif Bars and even coverage from Fuel TV and the Venice Paparazzi. A handful of Arbor’s skate team and staff showed their love and support for B4BC by joining us on the skate. Everyone brought great energy for Skate The Coast, especially the LMU team, having almost 20 people out for the event to support B4BC. From start to finish, through bruises, broken boards and broken bikes, everyone’s spirits were high and smiles were seen for 18 miles along the coast. Curt Sterner’s mom, the inspiration for this event, came out to the finish line to greet the skaters with a warm smile and applaud. And for all the tired legs at the end of the skate, Big Red, Red Bull’s double-decker bus was parked at the finish line, outfitted with a DJ spinning live inside the bus, to take everyone back to Santa Monica.
Although the event was on Saturday, the fun began at the Arbor Shop in Venice for the registration party, Friday night. With a great turnout at the Arbor store, everyone surely enjoyed the impromptu skate session while DJ Roy Ceballos (Vinyl Trooper) brought the tunes and set the tone for people to register for Skate the Coast and hang with friends to show their support for Boarding For Breast Cancer.
It was an honor to experience this incredible day with past participants and also with many new faces. Thanks for coming out and skating with us, and for those of you who could not make it: we hope to see you next year!
Boarding For Breast Cancer would like to give a special thanks to Arbor for hosting the registration party, to Clif Bar, Sector 9, Liquid Salvation, Zola, Red Bull, Tahoe Longboards, Squaw Valley, Lakeside, Thrasher, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Fuel TV, Skullcandy, Famly Clothing, Marriott, Porters, Raw of Squaw, Rhymesayers, Dermatone, Hartline Construction, Paul Mitchell, Sessions, Epitaph, Alternative Press, Shoreline of Tahoe, Crux, and Taits.
Keep up the skate and stay stoked!
