What an amazing weekend it was at B4BC’s 12th annual Skate the Lake 28-mile longboard-a-thon in Lake Tahoe! Last weekend was an HUGE success, with almost 70 skaters raising over $23K for Boarding for Breast Cancer’s education, prevention and support programs! We had an awesome weekend filled with tons of fun and an overwhelming amount of love and support from the Tahoe community.
We kicked off our weekend with a registration party at Dockside 700 in Tahoe City. As skaters signed up for the weekend, they were treated to t-shirts designed by Perspektiiv and printed by the Nomadic Print Shop, as well as goodie bags with prizes from our friends at Vans, KIND, VonZipper, and many more. Raffles and a silent auction rounded out the night, getting people stoked for Saturday’s activities!
We started Saturday bright and early with skaters pushing a total of 28 miles along the shores of Lake Tahoe. Some skated for loved ones while others wanted to join in on the movement to support a healthy, active lifestyle. This year we were stoked to have riders on boards, bikes, skates, and our first ever scooter rider!
We want to give a shout out to our top three fundraisers this year who made a huge impact. Our top fundraiser for the second year running was 13-year-old Katie Lyssand, who went door-to-door to local shops and businesses asking for their support. Katie raised over $5,500 and became the top fundraiser we have ever had at one of our board-a-thon events! Because of her dedication, Katie won herself a brand new GoPro Hero Session and a special edition Silly Girl x Skate the Lake board! We are always so impressed by Katie’s efforts and her amazing spirit!
The number two place went to the Knight Family who came back for their 11th Skate The Lake and raised over $1,800! 9-year-old Colin Knight, last year’s youngest rider, stepped aside to let his little brother, 5-year-old Dylan Knight become our youngest rider to participate in the skate, riding the full 28 miles on his newly training wheel free bicycle. Rounding out our top three was David Abella who raised over $1,700 for his first ever Skate the Lake!
We are always so amazed by the love and support in the Lake Tahoe community and want to send out a huge thank you to everyone who participated and made this event so wonderful! We couldn’t do it without you all.
As always thank you so much to Skate the Lake creators Curt Sterner & Chuck Buckley! Thanks again to our on-site EMT’s Laura Brown, Mark, and Jason and Lindsay Knight, as well as our awesome volunteers Maggie Gonzalez, Alison Lebofsky from Perspektiiv and her friend Melissa, Scott and Audrey Lohmeyer, Caleb and Doug Bonneville, Cali Vail, and Greg Stevens. In addition, huge shout out to Perspektiiv Alison Lebofsky for this year’s amazing artwork and Nomadic Print Shop for printing our tees & tanks!
We want to give huge THANK YOU’S to: Dockside 700, Mamasake, Hartline Construction, GoPro, Hurley, Sector 9, KIND Snacks, Globe, Bai, Arbonne, Homewood Ski Resort, Irie Rafting, Sun Bum, Clif Bar, Alahambra Water, Totally Board, and Woodward.
