Last Saturday our friends at Taos Ski Valley helped us Shred The Love for our 4th annual winter event together! The action-packed day raised just over $35,000 for B4BC’s educational + support programs, with a portion of the proceeds also benefitting regional non-profit, the Anita Salas Memorial Fund, which provides financial assistance for breast cancer services in New Mexico.
The first part of the day kicked off on the hill with the K2 Bumps Challenge, a fun yet difficult 4-hour marathon down Taos Ski Valley’s famous “Al’s Run”. Athletes needed to fundraise a minimum of $100 to participate, but the crew of amazing people who came out to support went above and beyond with their fundraising efforts.
Our top (3) fundraisers this year were…
1. Gail Kennedy – $6,000
2. Michael Wagener – $3,580
3. Riley Kelehan – $1,240
*Honorable mention – Chip Lunsford put his fundraising into overdrive post event & has now fundraised $1,330.
Gail, Michael, and Riley also completed the most laps down Al’s Run with Gail representing the ladies at (19) runs and Michael at (21). Riley tied for second with Patrick Gres, each completing (20) runs. Not too mention all of our participants kept things fun + light hearted on the hill by racing in costumes!
Once the lifts closed we took the fun inside for the Paint for Peaks: Snowboard Art Exhibit and Auction, where 20 renowned local artists created one-of-a-kind custom artwork on up-cycled K2 snowboards. The results were an eclectic and striking display of art!
To round out a great day local band, Katy P and The Business, brought the funk, soul, and rock n’ roll to keep the good vibes going!
