February is National Cancer Prevention Month! While this month serves as a reminder that prevention and preventative measures are important, we should be mindful EACH AND EVERY DAY of what we can do to lower our risks and the impact we have on the lives of those around us. With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, we want to share some love with you. Here are some simple steps that you can take to love yourself, love each other, and love the environment. How will you show love today?
Your body really is a temple. Eat Consciously, have a healthy diet, and exercise regularly to maintain a healthy body weight and to feel good! Check out our Tasty Tuesday posts every week for healthy and delicious meals.
Don’t smoke! It takes a toll on your whole body and accounts for nearly 30% of all cancer deaths. Don’t be a statistic.
Limit your alcohol intake. A glass of red wine here and there has its benefits, but everything in moderation please!
Embrace pale! A perpetual bronze tan is not worth the permanent abuse it does to your skin. Always use sunscreen, even in the winter months, and stay out of the tanning beds.
Check One, Two! Do regular monthly self breast exams (SBE’s) and get annual mammograms—don’t wait until you’re 40 either!
Be a mindful consumer. Our bodies are not only affected by what we put into them, but by what we expose them to as well. A greener environment ensures a healthier you. Do you recycle? If not, start now. Try composting, too. Buy products that use little or no plastic, and support eco-friendly and local companies.
Think outside yourself and lead by example. How does your lifestyle affect your family, your friends, and your community? If you need to make some changes, start today. And don’t be bashful, share your healthful knowledge with the people you love!
