It’s finally here! THE FIRST DAY OF SUMMER! Today is the Summer Solstice, which means it is the longest day of the year, clocking in over 15 hours of sunlight.
Before you run outside to soak up those rays, take a minute to protect your skin and slather on that sunscreen. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. There is also a link between skin cancer and melanoma, and women with one have a higher risk of developing the other. One in five people will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, but you can reduce your risk by 80% just by regularly using sunscreen.
Not all sunscreens are created equal, so educate yourself before you choose one. Go for a sunscreen with SPF 15 at the very least, and be sure the check that it protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
Our partners at Sun Bum make some awesome sunscreen. It’s approved by the Skin Cancer Foundation (and they do not hand out seals of approval lightly), and together they test and develop all of their skin care products to ensure customer safety, providing the ultimate in sun protection. Made with the needs of surfers, outdoors enthusiasts and those of us who just can’t get enough sunshine and water sports in mind, Sun Bum provides protection that simply cannot be beat. Plus, their products are rich, smooth and smell delicious!
More is better when it comes to sun protection, so lay it on thick and frequently because sun burns and skin cancer are not fun ways to spend summer vacation.
