Spring is here, and with it comes many a music festival! From Coachella to Bonnaroo to Lollapallooza, “festival season” is very much a thing now. Since we’re in the healthy body business, we put together a few crucial tips to take care of your body while you’re listening to the good jams.
PROTECT YOUR SKIN
Playing in the sun all day is lots of fun, but be smart about it and cover up with a hat, sunglasses, chapstick and non-toxic sunscreen (avoid oxybenzone!). Temps can get into the 90’s and 100’s, and if you get fried on day 1 you’re not going to have a rough time. One in five people will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, but you can reduce your risk by 80% just by regularly using sunscreen. NOW IS THE TIME!
While a $20 cold beer on a hot day can sound tempting, opt for water to stay hydrated and keep your energy up! Being outside all day can be exhausting and affect your body more than you realize. Bring a refillable bottle to make sure you can fill up all day long, and don’t forget to hit the water fountain in between sets!
Coconut water is a great choice too since it’s full of electrolytes and potassium. It’s even a good idea to start drinking extra water in the days leading up to the festival so you don’t go into the weekend dehydrated.
Music festivals are fun and there are things going on ALL NIGHT LONG but remember it’s a marathon, not a sprint. While you’re busy YOLO-ing, your body and immune system are getting worn down. Make sure to knock out enough hours of sleep every night to keep from getting sick, and steal away for a power nap during the days. You’ll be thankful when you’re pumped up and full of energy for the headliner!
Dust and dirt and germs are out to get you at these festivals. Keep them at bay by carrying around wet wipes and using them before you eat, after touching sweaty people and things, and definitely after the porta potty. Keeping clean is going to help keep you healthy.
The other way your should be staying clean is by keeping the festival grounds clean! Be conscious of your footprint and take care of the place you’re enjoying by picking up after yourself and others. Healthy earth = healthy you!
