This week, B4BC wellness ambassador and breast cancer survivor Megan Pischke tells us why she loves crystals:
“I don’t remember when I started to collect crystals. But I do have a pretty good memory of all my dressers and bedside tables growing up. And they were all covered in rocks, shells, odd sticks/driftwood, and random pieces of chewed bubble gum. I remember once my dad bringing me home a bag of polished rocks from Wyoming. The Amethyst, Tigers Eye, and Rose Quartz stuck with me for nearly 20 years in over 6 different homes and lots of travels.
I have been attracted to earthly things my entire life – and to crystals for good reason- they are healing and I believe they are magic. Crystals take hundreds and thousands of years to form, and work through resonance and vibration. Some crystals contain minerals that are known for therapeutic properties, and can heal holistically. They are a gentle way to work on the physical, emotional, mental, psychological and spiritual levels of being. I believe that we all have the right to know of this type of energy and it’s up to ourselves to cultivate it.
The human body is built similarly to that of a crystal. And like the human body, a crystal is an energy form, and can actually be programmed. It often picks up on all sorts of energies, good and bad. That’s why its good to protect and care for your crystals, in the same way you may treat and cleanse your own body. I like to soak certain stones in salt water, like in a tide pool. Letting them lay in direct sun or moon light can also be helpful. Its important to have the intentions of clearing all negative energies from your crystals while you clean them. Some crystals never need to be cleansed, like Kyanite and Citrine. Citrine absorbs, transmutes (into love), dissipates, and grounds negative energy, and so is very protective for the environment.
I believe that we all came from an energetic source that we are very close to (and connected to) when we were born, and were children. Depending on what sort of cultural background that you grow up in and what sort of personal beliefs you and your family have, this type of energy can either be cultured or smothered. We are always connected to that source, but in today’s hurried, disconnected, and often toxic lifestyles, we tend to lose that connection and can feel scattered. Crystals can help us get back to our source. They can help focus upon and cultivate the energy that we sometimes need to remove obstacles, heal traumas, and accomplish meaningful tasks.
Many crystals have medicinal healing properties, and have been used for centuries by Shamans and even todays modern healers. From headaches, to adrenals, to fevers, to pain relief, and everything in-between, crystals are healers themselves.
I have used Carnelian for moving stagnant blood (tumors), Malachite for pain and detoxification, and turquoise as a mala necklace for stress headaches. There are certain crystals that I seem to be drawn to and somehow find their way into my life, and so those are the ones that I feel are best for me. Rose Quartz, Amethyst, Citrine, and Smoky Quartz , along with any sort of phantom crystal, are some of my favorites. Now that I understand what these particular stones are used for, I am able to dedicate them to my conditions accordingly.
A phantom crystal appears like a ghost inside a larger body of another crystal. It is believed that a phantom crystal has had many lives, and has absorbed learning over eons of time. It teaches to put the past (recent and not so recent) into perspective, points the way towards growth and letting go, and can help one understand how the events of the past have led up to the present conditions. Its all about facing and dealing with what has happened, and releasing it. They’re quite magnificent!
In some way, shape, and form, a rose quartz has been with me since I was 8 years old. I would say this crystal has always brought me calm. It has helped me feel love again when I needed to be reminded of that all encompassing feeling. Rose Quartz is the stone of unconditional love and infinite peace. It allows you to embrace change that is necessary, to release unexpressed emotions, and transmutes all negativity into love. A great place to wear one would be on a necklace or in a pocket over the heart. Feels good!
Smoky Quartz can help with menstrual cramps or any other leg/abdominal cramping. Because this crystal is naturally irradiated, it helps in treating a radiation related illness, or chemotherapy. It’s great when used for meditation and can help get rid of nightmares and manifesting dreams.
As been said by Heather Askinosie, sometimes you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince charming, and the same is true for crystals. Take your time to shop around and to find one that works for you. Each crystal has its own vibrational blueprint and although some may look similar, they each may react with you differently. Wear them as jewelry and travel with them in pockets. Once you find one that resonates with you, set a dedicated purpose and tap in. You might be pleasantly surprised.”
