DIVAS in Drag
A Fundraiser for Boarding For Breast Cancer
On Monday October 30 outdoor DIVAS hosted the second annual Boarding for Breast Cancer Fundraiser. This year outdoor DIVAS took the event to a whole new level. K2 sponsored athlete and 2006 Olympic medalist Gretchen Bleiler was on hand to emcee Divas in Drag, outdoor DIVAS first all male drag show.
The event included free chair massage, appetizers and refreshments, a silent auction and an awareness presentation on breast cancer presented by Boulder Community Hospital. The headline event, the drag show, started shortly after 8 PM and included 17 Boulder locals dressed in outdoor DIVAS’ winter collection. The men showed up a few hours earlier to practice their entrances and visit with the DIVAS ‘handlers’; a group of women dedicated to turning 17 fit, athletic and good looking men into a group of good looking, well dressed and ready-for-the-slopes women!
Gretchen Bleiler: “I think Outdoor Divas did a good job to get the community excited about the winter season. Supporting Boarding for Breast Cancer and showing off all the hot new women’s apparel – the men do a really good job of it. It makes it so much more funny! And they really do rock it pretty well. I was really impressed.
With Shakira and Cher cued in the stereo system, the men took the stage to a packed and rowdy house of friends, relatives and supporters of the cause. Ms. Bleiler was an energetic and fearless emcee. When asked if she had ever emceed a drag show she laughed and said “definitely not”, but you would have never known that from her lively performance. If the men were nervous, they didn’t show it. As one drag show model stated “I didn’t know any of the guys and now we’re all friends. It’s really amazing what women’s clothing and a little makeup can do – it really opens them up.
Food was donated by Aspen Grove. Beer was donated by BJ’s. Flowers were donated by Boulder Blooms. Silent auction items, including a K2 and Burton snowboard were donated by K2, Burton, Rocky Mounts, Triks skirts, Golite, Smith, Oakley, Luna bar, and Betty Rides. The event not only raised money and awareness for a great cause (net proceeds to B4BC will exceed $1500), but allowed people to laugh and learn at the same time. As Triks Founder Nicole DeBoom stated ” I had a blast. This must be an annual affair!”
Outdoor DIVAS would like to thank all of the sponsors, Boarding for Breast Cancer and Gretchen Beiler for their generosity and support in making this event possible.
Additionally, B4BC would like to send many thanks to DIVAS and all who made this an exceptional night! Thank you all so much for your dedication to our cause and for helping raise awareness in your community!
