The Story of Pro Snowboarder and B4BC Ambassador Megan Pischke’s Courageous Journey with Breast Cancer Told for the First Time
In October of 2012, pro snowboarder Megan Pischke Porcheron was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer ironically just one month after hosting a surf and wellness retreat for breast cancer survivors – one of many she had hosted in her 17 years as a long time ambassador for the non-profit Boarding for Breast Cancer. In the months that followed, Megan invited B4BC to document her experiences with both western and non-traditional cancer care, including the controversial cold cap therapy, which allowed her to keep her hair despite chemotherapy.
On Wed., January 21 the former X Games athlete will share her story in the documentary film, Chasing Sunshine, a rare and real life look at cancer, the rigors of treatments and the beautiful side of survival. The B4BC documentary, made possible by The North Face, makes its U.S. debut in Pischke’s home state of Colorado.
“Without a doubt, my experiences as a pro snowboarder and B4BC ambassador have prepared me for this next part of my journey,” said Megan, entering her second year in remission. “I am humbled by the outpouring of love since my diagnosis and have gained a deeper appreciation of the importance of community and connecting with the world around you during the most vulnerable of times. Every morning I open my eyes, I am so grateful for another day.”
Doors open at 7 p.m. at the Wheeler Opera House. Find more information about the event here, and claim your free ticket in person at the Wheeler Opera House. For a sneak peek of the film, view the Chasing Sunshine trailer.
