Dew Tour – you were all time. 2017 marks the first year of an all-time, all-rad friendship between Dew Tour and Boarding for Breast Cancer.
We were so stoked to be on-site at one of the biggest skate contests in the world. Taking place right along the beach in downtown Long Beach, it was the ultimate community gathering for those who wanted to experience some of our favorite things – skateboarding, music, and art.
Skate contests included Pro Bowl, Pro Street and a Team Comp. Let’s just say, the competition was pure fire with stacked style, charm and attitude. From frontside flips, frontside disasters and 50/50 to fakies in the pro bowl, then a kickflip nose manual, cab back tail and kickflip frontside lipside in the pro street finals, we were impressed from start to finish. Ultimate congrats to the champs: Kevin Hoelfer in Pro Street and Cory Juneau in the Pro Bowl and Team Blind (Micky Papa, TJ Rogers, Trey Wood, and Yuto Horigome) in the Team Challenge. Check out full results here!
Another huge shoutout and congrats to Jordyn Barratt for making it to Dew Tour and truly reppin’ the ladies! Coming in strong at only 18, she was the one and only female competing along the boys. She resulted in spot 22 in the AM Bowl Qualifiers.
After watching the comps, skaters of all ages and abilities were welcome to try out the FREE public skate park which was a scaled down replication of the course all of the pros were grinding out on. Full of vibrant colors and paintings, with collaboration between Dew Tour, Mountain Dew and Steve Harrington, this course was like nothing you’ve ever seen.
As if that wasn’t already fun enough to look at, one of the most unique things about Dew Tour was The Art of Doing presented by Mountain Dew and LightWave, which demonstrated the dynamic relationship between skateboarding and emotions. With a full display of what your brain activity looks like on adrenaline, there were stats such as heart rate, blood volume pulse, skin temperature, electrodermal activity and motion. All of this data was then displayed in varying colorful motion graphics unique to athletes such as Curren Caples, Sean Malto, and more.
Our traveling education booth was in full effect jamming out all weekend, teaching hundreds of people of all ages how to do breast self-exams and learn what a potentially cancerous lump feels like. On Friday and Saturday, we were pleased to have live painting on Arbor Skate decks by Artie and Rachel supported by Arbor Skate as well as a photo print exhibit, displaying some of the most iconic skate photos in history. As usual, B4BC’s bra pong was quite the hit. Five balls//four bras//10 chances to win raffle tickets. We saw some fierce competition including some style we’d never seen before (kickflip to a ball in the bra anyone?!)
What a time to be alive it was this weekend, thanks for having us Dew Tour! We can’t wait to see you again this winter!
California friends who came out to see us this weekend – if you haven’t already, mark your calendars! Registration is now open for B4BC’s Skate the Coast, a 19 mile pier to pier long board-a-thon from Santa Monica to Redondo Beach! Start fundraising HERE!
