We’re back in Los Angeles after an amazing week in Vail, Colorado at the 34th Annual Burton US Open of Snowboarding. We couldn’t have asked for more beautiful weather for 4 days of outreach and incredible competition. We spent most of our time in the sponsor village hanging out with visitors from all over the world, spreading the word about early detection and prevention.
The Burton sponsor village was our home for the week, posting up alongside other rad organizations like Chill and Protect Our Winters. We had tons of fun meeting so many new faces and talking about the different ways we can reduce our breast cancer risk. Visitors got the chance to learn how to do a breast self-exam and learn what a cancerous lump by feeling jelly breast molds. Some of our new friends took it to the next level by taking our Prevention Pledge and making a promise to themselves to make a change in their life to reduce their risk.
Team B4BC was out in full force with team riders Elena Hight and Jamie Anderson each making it to the final rounds of their event. Jamie ultimately took the number one spot in Women’s Slopestyle for the second year in a row, marking her 5th top finish overall. “Even though women may be progressing at a different rate than the guys, it’s still very impressive that we’re out here hitting these massive jumps. Props to all the ladies who are out here riding this course!” Jamie told Transworld Snowboarding after the event. Take a look at all the top finishers at this year’s open:

There were US Open activities all over Vail Village throughout the week! After the contests each day, you could swing by the ice rink to catch the US Open Broomball Tournament and then stick around for the free concert. This year’s acts included GRiZ, Big Grams, The Bright Light Social Hour, and The Sheepdogs. This year also marked the return of the Junior Jam halfpipe event where ten boys and five girls under the age of 14 competed for their chance to go on to the main event.
We met tons of insanely talented young athletes but one definitely stood out. Kenzie Bogart is 3 years old and in the middle of her battle with leukemia but that didn’t stop her from shredding with her family all week long (with the biggest smile we may have ever seen)! Sending lots of love and positive vibes to Kenzie and the Bogart family!
Thank you so much to Burton for having us out every year, we love being a part of this amazing event. And a very special shout out to all of the lovely ladies from the Denver School of Nursing who volunteered for us all week long. We couldn’t do what we do without all of your support!
