Join B4BC at Sierra-at-Tahoe during our 20th Anniversary Snowboard + Music Festival for a special 108 Sun Salutations fundraiser led by wellness ambassador Megan Pischke and Olympic snowboarder Jamie Anderson. The sun salutation, or surya namaskar (Sanskrit), is a dynamic sequence of movements (asana) performed to celebrate the sun, while building strength and improving flexibility.
To sign up, visit our FUNDRAISING PAGE, click the ‘Become a Fundraiser’ button and create your own fundraising page. Customize it any way you would like to show family and friends why you’re dedicating your time to do the 108 Sun Salutations. Have family and friends sponsor your salutations any way you would like, we’ve laid out an easy example below:
- $0.10 per salutation: $0.10 x 108 = $10.80
- $0.15 per salutation: $0.15 x 108 = $16.20
- $0.20 per salutation: $0.20 x 180 = $21.60
- $0.25 per salutation: $0.25 x 180 = $27.00
Customize your contribution however you would like and we can’t wait to see you at Sierra-at-Tahoe!
B4BC Wellness Ambassador Megan Pischke offers her inisight on 108 Sun Salutations:
“Why 108? There are many reasons for the sacredness of this number, but my personal favorite is the connection to the heart chakra. The chakras are intersections of energy lines and there are a total of 108 energy lines converging to form the heart chakra. One of them is called the sushumna that leads to the crown chakra and is said to be the path of self–realization. It’s all about connection, who’s in?!
A few years back, I participated in Shiva Raes’ Global Mala Project. Along with thousands of others around the world at nearly the same time, she united us all in 108 sun salutations to celebrate earth day and our true connectedness by forming a mala around the earth. People from all yoga schools, religious backgrounds, and cities participated. Each event, wherever it was in the world, raised funds for the organization of their choice dedicating their practice, or practicing “seva”, service by integrating local action.
This time, my 108 sun salutations are dedicated to Boarding for Breast Cancer for all they do and share with those who need it. Jamie and I will lead whoever wants to participate in this practice, with 4 sets of 27 (small water and breathing breaks in between the sets) and a prayer to close.
Not into sun salutations? No problem! We’ll also be supporting 108 minutes of meditation, 108 rounds of a mantra of your choice, or 108 kriyas. We look forward to an amazing morning & hope that you will join us regardless of your choice!”
