Sweet, sweet summertime. ICYMI, we’ve been up to quite a bit of shenanigans for the past few weeks. We’ve seen loads of good times, new friends, old friends, surfing, skateboarding, education and fundraising. We’d like to say thank you to anyone who’s come to support us at the following events in the past few weeks, as well as our sponsors and partners for the support: Boarding for Breast Cancer’s Skate the Lake, Paul Mitchell Neon Supergirl Surf Pro, Vans US Open of Surf and Roxy Fitness.
We kicked off the summer with our Roxy friends for the ultimate girl day. The girls were welcome to choose from run, SUP, yoga, or a combination of the three. We had an awesome day on the beach, and were able to educate hundreds of girls on early detection and a healthy, active lifestyle as the best means for prevention. Thanks for having us, Roxy!
Skate the Lake
B4BC’s 13th Annual Skate the Lake took place in beautiful Lake Tahoe from July 29-30th. We were able to earn an impressive $26,000 towards B4BC’s education, outreach and survivor programs! At the Friday registration party, nearly 750 people joined us for live music by Chuck Ragan, Serina Dawn, DJ Aux, DJ Paul and DJ IJV, yoga, a BBQ, and PBR beer garden. On Saturday, we had 65 skaters, bikers and for the first time, a scooterer join us for the 28 mile ride through Lake Tahoe! Prizes including a GoPro, Arbor Solstice complete decks, Sector 9 complete decks, and more were awarded to our top fundraisers: Katie Lyssand ($5,143), Cali Vail ($2,542), Jason Knight ($1,648). A huge thank you to our partners, supporters and friends for helping to make this happen! Check the full recap here.
Super Girl Pro
Meanwhile, B4BC’s traveling education booth was down south in Oceanside, CA for the Paul Mitchell Neon Supergirl Surf Pro, the biggest female surf contest in the world! Throughout the weekend, we had tons of activities to participate in, and educated nearly 450 people about breast cancer prevention and early detection. On Saturday, all we were welcome to come to the booth and create their own, personalized flower crown with the help of Flora Aura Crown bases designed by Lindsy Richards of Illumating Archetypes. We also had live painting via Arbor Skate with Alison Woliver and Rachel Orodenker. To wrap up the day, we were pleased to announce our friends at Black Plague Brewing were willing to host a B4BC X Super Girl Pro after party fundraiser! Throughout the night, we earned over $450 plus $400 throughout the rest of the weekend, all towards B4BC’s education and survivor support programs. Thank you Black Plague, Lindsy, Ali and Rachel!
We caught some fierce competition through the weekend. Two of B4BC’s Athlete Ambassadors, Courtney Conlogue and Sage Erickson went head to head in the finals, with Courtney taking the final win. Congratulations to both girls for their epic surfing and efforts!
Vans US Open of Surf
The following weekend, August 3-6th, B4BC’s traveling education booth moved on a bit north to Huntington Beach, CA for the Vans US Open of Surfing. Once again, we were stoked to continue educating people, as well as catch up on surf, skate and BMX comps. Our photo booth and Polaroid keepsakes were in full swing, as well as beloved bra pong. All in all, we educated nearly 500 people throughout the weekend. Our friends at Hydroflask hosted ski ball, with donations benefitting B4BC and our outreach and survivor programs!
Sage Erickson and Courtney Conlogue once again went head to head in semi-finals, with Sage advancing to finals against Tatiana Weston-Webb. Sage displayed some all-time surfing and was crowed the female winner of the 2017 Vans US Open of Surfing! Congrats, Sage!
