When it comes to the products you put on your body, skin, or hair, one thing’s for sure: most companies that makes those products don’t have your back. Heather White, Executive Director of the Environmental Working Group, explains why our lotions, makeup, and shampoos are loaded with dangerous chemicals, why babies are born with hundreds of toxins in their blood, and what you can do to make your immediate environment — and the world — a little bit safer.
While most people consider skating to work a little too much to handle, the guys over at That’s A Tripp can’t seem to get enough of it—130 miles skated from Manhattan to Montauk and $2000 fundraised later, these guys are as stoked as ever on their amazing Tripp that benefited B4BC’s breast cancer education and prevention programs…and their story is DEFINITELY one you want to read! Check out their blog recap below with some awesome photos and incredible moments along the 130 mile skate! 5 years ago Jack Staley and I were delivering food for a small Cafe in SoHo NYC. Pushing ourselves, timing runs and counting blocks, dodging Yellow Cab doors and sidewalk basement openings a

Our volunteer community plays an incredibly important role in helping us spread our message and keep our programs strong & moving. Today we wanted to highlight longtime B4BC volunteer, Margaret “Margo” Stoney. Margo has been quite the utility player for B4BC over the years and we’re so thankful for her support. Read on to hear how she got started and what her most recent volunteer project was with B4BC… “I volunteered for my first Boarding for Breast Cancer event about ten years ago – it was a board-a-thon at Crystal Mountain, Michigan. Since then, I’ve been involved with the organization in a variety of ways. Fundraising, volunteering at the booth, and I’ve even been lucky enough to do some graphic design work as well. “Recently, I created a poster for their Skate the Lake and Skate the Coast events, which was a huge hono
Although we don’t have much say in the nasty chemicals in the air outside, we do have the power to make our homes a toxin-free haven! We deserve to have living spaces full of fresh, clean air where we can be at peace with what we are putting into our bodies and not have to worry about cancer-causing carcinogens. Many people unintentionally fill their homes with products that are not the safest and we think it’s time to put a stop to just that. We’ve got a few different ways to help you cancer-proof your humble abode to help you live a healthier life! MAKE YOUR OWN CLEANING PRODUCTS Although store-bought cleaning products do a great job at killing germs in our homes, they do an even better job at exposing us to all kinds of chemicals that are then absorbed into our skin and bodies. Avoiding this is simple and cheap: make your own cleaning
We think it’s safe to assume that we are all busy people. Whether it’s a job or school, a job and school, or anything else for that matter, we all get caught up running around and attempting to keep up with our everyday lives. It’s safe to say our healthy habits go out the window every once in awhile (we’re guilty too) and that is totally okay. Everyone needs a cheat day here and there! However, if you can start your day and end your day in a healthy way, chances are you will feel a lot better about your mind, body, and soul. We’ve found 2 great tips that will make your AM and PM more productive for your health and can help you live a little bit healthier! Not only that, they are SUPER easy to follow!
Article and photos courtesy of: POPSUGAR We’re always sad to see summer go but we couldn’t be more excited to jump right into fall. When we think of fall, we tend to think of pumpkins and squash but we have good news! The fall harvest brings in tons of other fresh, tasty fruits and veggies! These days it isn’t too difficult to find all kinds of produce year round, BUT it is important to know what is actually in season. If you are eating produce when they are not actually in season, chances are you are eating something that was either grown in a hothouse or shipped from across the world. Both methods affect the taste and nutritional value of the produce itself. According to Brian Halweil, author of “Eat Here: Homegrown Pleasures in a Global Supermarket,” “If you harvest something early so that it can endure a long distance shipping experi

And, it would be a good idea to start doing so because there are tons of benefits to take advantage of!

The other day somebody asked me the question: “So what have you gained from this whole experience?” Being in an interview conversation, I felt the (personal) pressure to say something amazing. I mean, come on Megan, you’re alive to tell this story! But, I stuttered around the words and for some reason—at that moment—I couldn’t quite define it. It’s a no brainer for me, a heck of a lot has come out of all of this: a new me, and an old me that still lingers (especially when there is chocolate around). What I had to realize and admit is that there is still a lot of processing I have yet to do. I told myself throughout the process: “I don’t want time to rush—I have these two beautiful children to watch grow, and time is already accelerated as a parent. But for some reason, as soon as things became challenging again, I found myself back
September is National Yoga Month, so we caught up with Team B4BC rider and Olympic gold medalist Jamie Anderson who knows a thing or two about the benefits of yoga—and between the strength, flexibility, balance and meditation aspects of yoga, has credited it to much of her snowboarding success! Jamie finds balance all over the world through practicing yoga, which she tell us "has not only helped my snowboarding, but everything in my life."
Okay, we know it sounds pretty strange! Avocado and smoothie just don’t seem like they should go together in a sentence, let alone in something we put in our mouth. Packed with fruits and veggies, this A M A Z I N G superfood smoothie is begging to be made and will provide your bod with an extra dose of cancer-fighting carotenoids & vitamin E!
Jason Knight is a longtime supporter of B4BC’s Skate the Lake and Skate the Coast series, and has always managed to be on of our top fundraisers every year! This is how he does it, and why the cause is so important to him and his family. To participate in B4BC’s 18-mile Skate the Coast from Santa Monica to Redondo Beach THIS weekend, start fundraising HERE! How long have you been involved with B4BC’s Skate Series? I have been doing Skate the Lake for 9 years now. I missed the very first one but I have been there ever since. I got involved with Skate the Lake after I saw a flier in the window at Tahoe Dave’s. I have been a skateboarder since I was about 8 years old an

This Tasty Tuesday = Taco Tuesday! Our friends over at Goofy Foot Foods introduced us to our new favorite way to add a little spice to our lives with these DELISH chickpea tacos. These are a totally new way to enjoy Mexican cuisine and you will feel way less guilty than you would after chowing down on a big ole burrito. Not only that, but the main ingredient, chickpeas(or garbanzo beans as some people know them), is packed with fiber and other nutritional benefits. No complaints here!
The way we see it, most of us are sitting down for a huge portion of our day. For many of us, our days revolve around our desk and computer. We tend to not realize it, but the actual way we sit can have a huge impact on our bodies, and get this… sitting behind our desk at work is actually exercise! It may not fall under our idea of a classic workout (it’s no jog in the park), but if we know the proper way to sit, we can utilize our time behind our desks for more than just work.
We're so excited that fall is right around the corner because that means pumpkin everything!! YUM! This recipe combines acai and pumpkin to make an insanely DELISH meal that is packed with cancer fighting beta-carotene, phytoestrogen, and antioxidants.
