Today is World Cancer Day. The theme of World Cancer Day 2015 is “Not Beyond Us,” which takes a positive and proactive approach to the fight against cancer, highlighting that solutions do exist across the continuum of cancer, and that they are within our reach. You can support B4BC's mission to stomp out breast cancer by fundraising all winter long to help us Shred The Love, either at one of our mountain events or by riding in honor of someone this season: www.b4bc.org/shredthelove Who do you ride for?

We’re excited to kick off our 2015 Shred The Love winter series of events at Waterville Valley tomorrow. This will mark the 10th year of support from our friends in New Hampshire and we couldn’t be more grateful for their commitment to the cause! Waterville’s Marketing & Events Manager, Jamie Cobbett, first brought our B4BC event to the mountain back in 2006. 10 years later he’s still the driving force behind this great community event. So we wanted to catch up with Jamie to share what inspires him to “Shred The Love” each year! What motivated you to reach out to B4BC over 10 years ago? My mother is a breast cancer survivor. She’s been cancer free for over a decade now. That coupled with my love of the industry and snowboarding I felt like B4BC was a cause we as a whole industry need to support. What continues to inspire you to stay

Letters like this fill our hearts with hope + happiness. Tom Brown was diagnosed with stage IV cancer in 2008 and founded the Surfing for Life Foundation in between nearly 40 rounds of chemo as a way to raise cancer prevention awareness amongst the surfing community. Through his iconic blue wristbands and cancer screening events, the Surfing For Life Foundation donates back to organizations that align with that mission. Tom comes by the B4BC office and drops off a check for us every quarter, and to date has donated over $3,000. Thank you Tom for all the good work that you do, and for being an inspiration to those fighting cancer everywhere!
It breaks our hearts to announce this, but Team B4BC rider and Olympic halfpipe gold medalist Kaitlyn Farrington will be retiring from competition due to a spinal condition. Source: Mind Body Green Did you know that regular and modest amounts of alcohol can raise your estrogen levels? Even one drink a day can expose breast tissue to higher hormone levels. Since some breast tumors are estrogen-sensitive, alcohol can increase the risk that the cells in that tissue will become cancerous, so limiting your intake can lower your risk of developing breast cancer. This is crunch time. Are you really going to commit to that resolution or have you already thrown in the towel after just six days? Well, if it has to do with cutting back on the booze, power through. You’re not alone. Many people are participating in what’s called “Dry January” or “Drynuary,” which means giving up alcoholic beverages for a month. And apparently, it’s worth it. The staff at the magazine New Scient
