It’s a no brainer that free radicals are harmful to you and the environment. As more and more studies link that the likely increase of breast cancer is due to environmental factors, it’s important for us to do our part to “live green” and work towards a healthier environment for everyone to live in.
Isn’t this drink gorgeous?! We’re guilty of being drawn to this recipe just because of how beautiful it was, but then we realized just how great it truly is. These cubes are made of 100 percent pure pitaya and are a perfect, nutrition-filled alternative to a normal ice cube. It was an amazing 5 days of outreach at the Vans US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California! This was our 14th consecutive year onsite and we had just as much fun as ever! Thousands of beach-goers swung by the B4BC educational outreach booth to get educated and learn about the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle. Using jelly breast molds, we taught people of all ages how to check themselves and showed them what a potentially cancerous lump might feel like. Tons of booth visitors decided to take our prevention pledge and promised to themselves to make more positive lifestyle choices and some picked up a copy of the brand new B4BC Basecamp Zine!
Of all the wellness buzzwords out there, inflammation might be the buzziest, and with good reason. Inflammation’s dark side is a powerful force in cancer development, where it aids and abets tumor growth and spread around the body. Essentially, inflammation may provide the fuel that feeds the flames of cancer and other nasty diseases. Being said, it’s an important topic to learn more about in order to live a healthier lifestyle!

The name is a bit of a mouthful, but this recipe combines two of our favorite breakfast flavors: chai and blueberry. Not only is this breakfast delish, it comes with some serious health benefits and is far healthier than a chai latte or blueberry muffin. This dish takes very little prep time and is perfect to grab when you’re heading out the door. We like to top off this simple chia pudding with antioxidant-rich blueberries to add a serious cancer-fighting punch. Besides the amazing flavors, check out the TWO big reasons why we think you should chow down on this for breakfast!
This week's Breast Cancer Prevention post comes from our girl Megan Pischke. She discusses with us the huge impact that plastic has on our bodies and our environments. She's got tons of great tips on how we can help reduce our use of plastic items and truly make a difference!
The magical acai berry! If you haven’t heard of this insane superfood yet, well, you might be living under a rock… Acai is all over the place and for good reason! This indigenous berry is commonly found in the rain forests of the Amazon and is a relative of the more common blueberry and cranberry. The antioxidant-rich fruit has been heralded for centuries as a healing, immune-stimulating, energy-boosting fruit, not to mention a cancer-fighting powerhouse.
One sobering fact of modern life: endocrine (hormone) disruptors are everywhere. Occasional contact wouldn’t be a major concern but the trouble is, most of us come into contact with them multiple times in a day, often in our cleaning products we use across our homes. Many of these toxins either block or promote estrogen and other hormones, so either way, they throw off your hormonal balance.
Photo courtesy of @SilverSpies Whether it be juices, smoothies, or matcha, green drinks are all the rage these days. Some people are still hopping on the matcha craze and if you haven’t tried it… we suggest you do! Swap out your morning coffee for a cup of warm or cold matcha tea to get your much-needed energy boost AND some extra health benefits that you can’t get from your average cup of joe. Matcha is a Japanese green tea that packs a considerable amount of caffeine and offers a calming sense of ritual. Now this isn’t your basic tea that you steep —it’s gyokuro green tea that has been ground into a fine powder and whisked with hot water to create a full-bodied, verdant elixir. It’s often celebrated for its nutritional value as well as its deep vegetal flavor. Read up on why you should start sipping on matcha below: HIGH IN ANTIOXIDANTS

This week's post is coming all the way from Costa Rica! B4BC Ambassador Megan Pischke is spending her summer down south and is sharing with us one of her favorite foods she has discovered, guanabana. I discovered guanabana last summer while I was in Costa Rica gathering my strength and health after a long year of cancer treatments. One day, my girlfriend ordered me the most delicious smoothie I had drank in a very long time. It tasted like pineapple, marshmallows, and sour grapes; it was creamy and all the flavors were wrapped into one. It became my new favorite and I had one every day that summer. I’m back here in Costa Rica for the summer now. Not only do I want to plant a tree in my yard, but I also want to find the fruit and have it readily available for all my popsicle and smoothie needs.

Hormone balance may not be something that you think about on a daily basis, but it’s definitely something that is worth our time! Hormonal balance is vital to a healthy, cancer-free mind and body. Eating the right foods can make a massive difference in your mood. A high-nutrient diet can reduce symptoms of hormonal imbalance like mood swings, depression, weight gain and acne — and it can improve your energy levels and overall outlook on life. Below are some of the best foods to include as part of your regular diet to help balance your hormones.

We're well aware that often times meditation is easier than it sounds. Meditation can be different for each and every person and it may take some experimenting to figure out what exactly works for you. We promise you that the reward is worth the struggle. Meditation can help reduce your blood pressure, decrease inflammation, and give you an overall better sense of balance and calmness. A study at the Ohio State University found that progressive muscular relaxation (meditation), when practiced daily, reduced the risk of breast cancer recurrence. Pretty amazing what sitting still can do for you! This week we're bringing you a special post from North Face athlete and breast cancer survivor, Megan Pischke. She gives us her take on meditation and a peek into how the process worked for her. Check it out below!
