Red Resort in Rossland, B.C. hosted their 2nd annual Shred The Love event this past season: a day was full of riding and education on the hill, followed by a rockin’ Pickwick Music concert at night! Over $5K was fundraised for B4BC and local hospital health fund, KBRH Health’s new digital mammography program. B4BC & Red are proud to be able to give back to KBRH’s new program which allows patients in the #Kootenay region to undergo breast cancer diagnostic testing that is minimally invasive and closer to home – while avoiding the 8 hour drive to Vancouver for services that until recently weren’t available in #Rossland. To learn more about KBRH please visit, http://kbrh.ca/ Many thanks to B4BC’s long-time advocate Fran Richards and Megs Porcheron (both pictured above with B4BC’s Blair Young), Pickwick, and the Red Mountain Resort staff
It’s the middle of the month…have you done your monthly BSE (breast self-exam) yet? According to Johns Hopkins Medical center, “40% percent of diagnosed #breastcancer is detected by women who feel a lump, so establishing a regular breast self-exam is very important.” If you need some instruction or a monthly reminder, download the free B4BC app for iPhone and iPad, or visit www.b4bc.org!

Loving yourself (#7 on B4BC’s 7 Steps to Stomp Out Breast Cancer!) is one of the most important aspects of staying healthy—physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Check out these tips below on how to de-stress and give your bod a little love! Article below courtesy of www.womenshealthmag.com Being permanently frazzled can steer you toward risk-boosting behaviors such as smoking, drinking, or overeating. But research suggests long-term stress might open an even bigger door to breast cancer by increasing blood flow to tumors, triggering hormones that encourage tumor growth, and sending your body into a state of constant inflammation. Need yet one more reason to chill? Chronic stress may increase the growth and spread of one of the most deadly forms of breast cancer—”triple negative”—for which there is no proven treatment.
Give your morning a twist with this recipe that takes orange juice to a whole new level! Using some pretty simple ingredients, you can quickly whip up this juice that will have you refreshed and ready to start your day(or afternoon for that matter), while majorly benefiting your health at the same time. What could be better than that?
You already know that pesticides are bad for you, linked to cancer and should be washed off your grub…but how do you wash off chemicals that are inserted into the DNA of your produce? It doesn’t help that 26% of Americans don’t even know that there are GMOs inside their food. Read our cheat sheet on how and why you should shop organic, and the top products to avoid!

Learning that I had breast cancer was a result of my reluctant and arduous efforts in gaining medical insurance. After answering all questions required before getting onto a temporary plan, I came to the realization that I didn’t have an annual checkup in 2012. It’s now February of 2013, and since my new insurance is telling me that these annual checkups are not covered, I think to myself, “Welp, I’ll skip this year, too, and just feel myself up right now.” Small breast, big lump. Weird, hard lump. I’m only 26, and this is the first time I’ve ever done a self-examination.
With over 2.9 million breast cancer survivors in the US alone, B4BC recognizes the importance of supporting our growing survivor community. In 2009, the B4BC Survivorship Fund was established to connect breast cancer survivors with nature-based wellness experiences that enhance their path of healing and long-term survivorship.

Kendra has accompanied our survivor wellness retreats these last few years to offer treatments and holistic advice to the breast cancer survivors who have attended these wellness weekends.
Before I was even diagnosed, Mother Nature was my doctor. I would look to her for inspiration, joy, relief, release, grounding and healing in general. So of course when it came down to this last year of intense therapies, hospitals, clinics, ivs, and everything that comes with that, I knew I could count on Her.
This week for Tasty Tuesday, we invited Team B4BC surfer and environmentalist Liz Clark to give us the run-down on how she lives her life for Earth Day everyday. Tune in as Danielle walks us through a journey that she never expected to experience at such a young age, and what B4BC’s mission of a healthy, active lifestyle & early detection means to her. We could eat almond butter all day long—in a smoothie, on a banana or mostly with a spoon. Luckily it has a m a z i n g health benefits, including reducing aromatase activity within the breast, thereby reducing estrogen production and lowering your risk of breast cancer. It’s also full of fiber, protein and antioxidants to stabilize blood sugar, promote heart health and keep you feeling full!
