Twenty-eight miles of skating, longboarding, biking, and for the first time: scootering. Boarding for Breast Cancer’s 13th Annual Skate the Lake presented by Skullcandy took place in Tahoe on July 28-29th and was a huge success! Thanks to our supporters, fundraisers, sponsors, friends, and family, Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) was able to earn $27k towards our outreach, education, and survivor programs!
We got the weekend started with a registration party on Friday night (7/28) at Commons Beach in Tahoe. Nearly 750 people came out for the Skullcandy music session with Chuck Ragan and Serina Dawn, DJ Aux, DJ Paul and DJ IJV, as well as a beautiful yoga session led by Shaela Morris of Yoga Studio Tahoe, PBR beer garden plus a BBQ brought together by Mountain Valley Meats, The Bridgetender and Rocker. Together, we raised $8,000 on-site!
The next day, Saturday 7/29, the big skate kicked off bright and early at 64 Acres Park. Homewood Mountain Resort loaded the buses and shuttled 65 of our skaters to the first haul of the 28 mile push, starting at Sugar Pine State Park. The skate went from Sugar Pine State Park, to West Shore Market, up to Squaw Mountain and back, ending (28 miles and roughly ~5 hours later) at Heritage Plaza in Tahoe City! Skaters were welcomed with music by ART and an award ceremony with prize packs, and prizes from sponsors including GoPro, Arbor, Sector 9, Yeti, and more.
A huge thank you and congratulations to our top fundraisers Katie Lyssand ($5,143), Cali Vail ($2,542) and Jason Knight ($1,648)! Katie was awarded a GoPro package, and complete Arbor Solstice board! Cali received a Sector 9 complete deck and Jason was given a Yeti Cooler as well as prize packs to all skaters! The skaters, bikers (and scooterer) killed it and we were so stoked on the success.
Thank you so much to everyone who came out and supported, skated, and fundraised as well as to our sponsors Skullcandy, Arbor Collective, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Paul Mitchell, Heckler Magazine, Sector 9, Yoga Studio Tahoe, Hartline Construction, West Shore Market, TCPUD and Mark Kowalchuk. Thanks to our volunteers: The Lohmeyer Family, Cali Vail, The Lyssand Family, The Knight Family, Kaberly Doerr, Doug and Caleb Bonneville, Kristen Cotter, Tina Basich, Rachel Blizard and Aurthur Richmond, Tanner Hall, Jack Hudson and Shane Hudson.
Together we are able to make a difference! Now its time to start gearing up for Skate the Coast, a 19 mile skate from Santa Monica Pier to Redondo Beach NEXT MONTH on September 30th!
