This past weekend, B4BC got ready to head into Breast Cancer Awareness month with our 10th Annual Skate the Coast presented by Skullcandy. The skate brought together 86 skaters and bikers for the 19 mile cruise from Santa Monica Pier to Redondo Beach. Participant fundraising, donations, and our registration party raised a remarkable $33,000 towards B4BC’s outreach, education and survivorship programs! Throughout the weekend, we enjoyed loads of skateboarding, live music, art, prizes, raffles and more. Thank you so much to our friends, family, partners, returning athletes, and new athletes who came to join us!
We fired off the weekend on Friday night with hundreds of our friends at Arbor Venice for our registration kick-off party. There was live music jammed by Tunnel Vision, live painting, photo displays, silent auction, cool brews supplied by Pabst Blue Ribbon and tasty drinks from Suja.
Saturday morning came bright and early where skaters, bikers and rollerbladers gathered at Santa Monica Pier and collectively rolled down the strand 19 miles to Redondo Beach. Along the way, we had 3 hydration stations with Suja, water and electrolytes at Marina Del Rey, Dockweiler State Beach, and Hermosa Beach. Through the entire skate, the energy never dipped below epic; you could see smiles for miles.
The skate ended at Dive N Surf in Redondo Beach with an awards ceremony, music sesh by Hoist the Colors, beverages, T-Shirts and more. A huge congratulations and our top fundraisers: Steve Kitsios ($2,975), Jacob Elson ($1,860) and Megan Taylor ($1,850) as well as top teams Cal Skate Roller Derby, Get out Girls and The Can Cans!
The collective efforts of participant-based fundraising prior to the skate surpassed $23,000! Team B4BC is incredibly honored and humbled by the efforts of those creating fundraising pages, friends and families coming to our kick-off party and awards ceremony, and especially those who joined us for 19 miles of skating.
