IT’S PERSONAL // Samantha Kuhr

It’s personal for B4BC friend and supporter Samantha Kuhr. Unfortunately, Sam was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, but we were so happy to have her join us for our Chasing Sunshine Project Ocean Retreat in Encinitas, California this past Fall. After her experience with B4BC, Sam connected us with her friend and employer Erin Condren (you may recognize that name). Erin Condren is not only an amazing woman herself, but runs an awesome company of the same name that produces the cutest planners, stationary, notecards, etc. We were so stoked to hear that Erin Condren wanted to create a product benefitting B4BC.

IT’S PERSONAL // Why Breast Cancer Must Matter to Men

Justin Sander is a Public Relations major at CSU Long Beach, and he reached out to Boarding for Breast Cancer to feature the organization as part of a service-learning requirement for his class and to help B4BC gain media coverage in his local networks. As an avid skateboarder, snowboarder, and surfer—and the grandchild of a breast cancer survivor—he had a strong interest in supporting B4BC. After getting more in the organization and learning more about the cause, he shared his thoughts in an op-ed for a school project that we would like to share below.

IT’S PERSONAL // STACI ROBERTS

Learning that I had breast cancer was a result of my reluctant and arduous efforts in gaining medical insurance. After answering all questions required before getting onto a temporary plan, I came to the realization that I didn’t have an annual checkup in 2012. It’s now February of 2013, and since my new insurance is telling me that these annual checkups are not covered, I think to myself, “Welp, I’ll skip this year, too, and just feel myself up right now.” Small breast, big lump. Weird, hard lump. I’m only 26, and this is the first time I’ve ever done a self-examination.

IT’S PERSONAL // Meet Danielle

As part of our Survivorship Week, we want to highlight a personal story from 28 year old Danielle Bauman who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 26. Danielle was connected with us through her close friend, fellow Mammoth Mountain local, and Team B4BC rider Kimmy Fasani. Tune in as Danielle walks us…

It’s Personal // Laura Milstead

Today we honor recent breast cancer survivor, Laura Milstead and how she’s giving back to her fellow survivor community. Laura shares our compassion to support the breast cancer community through nature-based wellness experiences that enhance a survivor’s path of healing and long-term survivorship; and she’s doing just that through a Yosemite Wellness Retreat,   May…

It’s Personal for Megan Pischke

As you may or may not know, Megs has been involved with B4BC for over 10 years. Beyond raising awareness, and inspiring others to lead a healthy, preventative lifestyle, she has worked towards raising funds for breast cancer survivors to attend her “ReTreat Yourself” wellness retreats for nearly 7 years. Ironically enough, Megs was diagnosed with breast cancer herself last fall.

IT’S PERSONAL // GRETCHEN SNYDER

Last week in Vail we met an awesome gal named Gretchen Snyder. Gretchen approached our educational booth rockin’ all pink ski gear & explained that it was in honor of her Aunt & Grandmother who both passed away from breast cancer. Gretchen’s zest for life is infectious and we love that she keeps her Aunt & Grandmother in mind every time she hits the slopes! Tune in below to hear more of her “It’s Personal” story…
