Breast Cancer Prevention // Megan Pischke’s Secrets to a Happy, Healthy Gut

There is a few things in my morning ritual that I think are key to me having a successful day. Warm lemon water, some yummy stretching, and a good, well here comes the awkward one: a good poop. I don’t know about you— but my day always seems to go better when I have a good morning poop. It’s something I cherish actually. For many years I had to deal with constipation, food allergies and sensitivities, and it took me quite awhile, and a lot of personal research and perseverance to figure out what works best for me.

Introducing the brand new Chasing Sunshine logo by Perspektiiv

We are SO excited to debut our brand new & extremely beautiful Chasing Sunshine Project logo!! This amazing new piece was designed by our friends at Perspektiiv in South Lake Tahoe and perfectly captures the essence of Chasing Sunshine. A Look Inside the 2015 Chasing Sunshine Project: Ocean Retreat

With over 2.9 million breast cancer survivors in the US alone, B4BC recognizes the importance of supporting our growing survivor community. In 2009, the B4BC Survivorship Fund was established to connect breast cancer survivors with nature-based wellness experiences that enhance their path of healing and long-term survivorship. This past fall we granted (10) breast cancer survivors the opportunity to attend our Chasing Sunshine Project: Ocean Retreat hosted by B4BC wellness ambassador, pro-snowboarder, survivor–Megan Pischke. The weekend focused on reconnecting with the natural world and ourselves through meditation, surfing, yoga, clean organic eating, and inclusive health discussions devoted to removing obstacles so that we may move forward, continue to heal, and achieve balance in our lives.

IT’S PERSONAL // Samantha Kuhr

It’s personal for B4BC friend and supporter Samantha Kuhr. Unfortunately, Sam was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, but we were so happy to have her join us for our Chasing Sunshine Project Ocean Retreat in Encinitas, California this past Fall. After her experience with B4BC, Sam connected us with her friend and employer Erin Condren (you may recognize that name). Erin Condren is not only an amazing woman herself, but runs an awesome company of the same name that produces the cutest planners, stationary, notecards, etc. We were so stoked to hear that Erin Condren wanted to create a product benefitting B4BC.

CANCER FIGHTING FOODS // Megan Pischke’s Super Booster Salmon + Kale Soup

I love soups. I love Salmon. These days there seems to be more and more information regarding how amazing salmon is for your body. And lucky me, I live in the North West, and my family and I often enjoy this fish fresh. Salmon contains potent omega-3 fatty acids called eicosapentaenoic acids and docosahexaenoic acids. Yeah, fun words, but even more fun that they are so proficient at getting rid of inflammation. I was taught to only combine animal protein soups with non-starchy veggies, ocean veggies, and raw salads. This is a quick and easy recipe to share with someone you love.

Megan Pischke’s Crystal Vision

I don’t remember when I started to collect crystals. But I do have a pretty good memory of all my dressers and bedside tables growing up. And they were all covered in rocks, shells, odd sticks/driftwood, and random pieces of chewed bubble gum. I remember once my dad bringing me home a bag of polished rocks from Wyoming. The Amethyst, Tigers Eye, and Rose Quartz stuck with me for nearly 20 years in over 6 different homes and lots of travels.

B4BC’S CHASING SUNSHINE SURVIVOR MOUNTAIN RETREAT

We just wrapped our 9th annual winter Chasing Sunshine retreat for breast cancer survivors in Aspen, Colorado—a weekend full of positivity, wellness and healing. We are honored to have be able to fund scholarships for eight breast cancer survivors to attend this retreat, hosted by pro snowboarder and breast cancer survivor Megan Pischke, to connect these women with a nature-based wellness and sustainability experience that enhance their path of healing and long-term survivorship. Megan was diagnosed with breast cancer in the Fall of 2012, ironically after hosting a B4BC surf and wellness retreat for breast cancer survivors.
